Chac Mool & Kukulkan

Overview

Come discover the mysteries of these caverns: stalagmites, stalactites, underwater cathedrals and light effects through crystal clear waters.

Sacred to the Mayan people, the world-famous cenotes are only along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. These cenotes offer a completely different world and a unique experience open to Open Water Divers.

We have combined 2 cenotes that are ideal for the first dives on the Yucatan Peninsula:

• Chac Mool means “Jaguar Paw”. This cenote is a very popular cenote because it was the first one to be open to the public.
• Kukulkan means “Feathered Serpent” and it is a part of the Chac Mool system.

These 2 cenotes are next to each other. In these cenotes, you will find crystal-clear freshwater, a variety of light plays, big cave formations and fossils in the stones. They are the best cenotes for the sunlight effect. In the morning, you will enjoy the breathtaking curtain of light and the wonderful jungle view underwater.

At 10 meters, you will be hypnotized by a strong halocline. This is where salt and freshwater meet but do not mix because of the difference of densities.

A minimum level of Open Water Diver or equivalent is required. If you do not have this certificate, you can obtain it by following Open Water Diver course PADI.
