Ria Lagartos Nature Reserve
During this excursion, you will visit the Rio Lagartos nature reserve. This place is known for its large colony of pink flamingos. Pink flamingos live all year round on the reserve but the largest number arrive in summer during the breeding season. At this time of year, large groups of birds cover the waters of the lagoon and create the impression of pink islands on the water. In addition to flamingos, the reserve is home to many birds and animals such as herons, ibis, pelicans, cormorants, pink spoonbills, monkeys, raccoons, deer and crocodiles. The excursion will be done by boat for a duration of 2h30 in order to observe the fauna and flora as close as possible.
The ancient Maya Ek Balam city
One of the most important buildings in the city is the Acropolis, which once housed members of the ruling family. In addition, there is a rich burial place of one of the most influential leaders of the city. The entrance was guarded by a giant mask like a jaguar's mouth. To this day, this mask is present and can be seen when climbing the steps of the Acropolis. The summit of the Acropolis offers us a unique view of the city and the surrounding jungle.
After this visit, we will have lunch with the freshest fruits of the city on the lagoon. In the afternoon, we will visit the town of Ek Balam which is hidden in the jungle. It is a magnificent archaeological area that is still little known to tourists. Only the central part of the city inside the fortress has been restored.
